The Review:

One Dark Throne is full of danger, betrayal, and emotions! It is a fast paced, action packed sequel that is sure to impress and intrigue you. Prepare for a magical ride, full of twists you won’t be expecting!

The Plot: After the quickening, all bets are off. The queens must decide who their allies are and come to terms with the fact that only one can survive. Katherine is no longer the weak, feeble queen. Arsinoe has a dangerous secret she must learn how to utilize, and Mirabella must face the obstacles thrown at her, knowing she is no longer the strongest queen of the bunch. Who will survive?

I really enjoyed One Dark Throne. It took me a little bit to get in to it though. I wish the author had found a way to put more of a recap in the beginning from book 1, as its been almost a year since I have read it. There are a few flashbacks and stated facts in the book that connect back to Three Dark Crowns, but I felt like it could have used more.

With that said, I still really loved this one! I felt like it showed the emotional sides of the sisters, and their allies. Katherine had an incredible, terrifying, character transformation. Arsinoe faced her new secret several times, and Mirabella had a few epiphanies about her feelings and her destiny.

The plot was faster paced than book 1. It had several twists and surprises that I was not expecting. It was definitely worth the wait, and had the sort of ending that left mewanting more, but was also satisfying. I felt like this book had characteristics from the TV show, Reign, and from the book, The Mists of Avalon. It also had bits of humor and plenty of intrigue.

Besides my one minor complaint, I felt that the writing was impeccable! Blake made me feel so close to each sister in book 1, and in book 2 I was unsure of who I wanted to root for, because I had become so involved with them. Their character developments were astounding and they were all so different, even after their personality changes. The world building was on point, just like in the first one. The plot was highly unique and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time!

All bets were off with this one! I had no idea who would survive, and who wouldn’t. I was surprised at the secrets that were revealed, and found myself wondering who could be trusted. And, to avoid spoilers, I was unsure of who I was wanting to come out on top until the very end. This one was unpredictable, and I loved it! I have just pre-ordered it after finishing it, so that should tell you something!

  1. I am glad you enjoyed this book. I honestly hated it because I felt the writing was mediocre and couldn’t connect with the characters. But I’ll admit, the concept was really unique and the plot was amazing! Great review here.

    1. I think this series is either a complete love or hate series. It is so great to see different opinions on it. Gives us something to talk about! I really love the concept of the book. I did feel like I could connect with the characters, maybe not as much as most, but it was there for me. Have you read anything similar that you did love and felt the connection with?

    1. Thanks. I would read Three Darks Crowns right before reading it though. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was that there wasn’t a whole lot of history thrown in to refresh us on book 1. I read it in January, lol. But I did love it nonetheless!

  2. I haven’t read Three Dark Crowns, but I have heard many great things about it, I think I will read it and then decide by myself as soon as possible 🙈😂

  3. Just finished it last night and it was a WHIRLWIND! I loved every minute of it. I also think that Jules will ultimately become Queen even with the ending we got in this book. Which was kinda chaotic and insane.

      1. There is just a lot of foreshadowing of Jules and her history. I don’t think Kendare would throw it in for no reason. That is my guess but I could be wrong! I mean we got so many twist and turns in this book that you never know!

      1. I thought it was intriguing and unusual. While there were a few things that bugged me, like the insta-love / love triangle, and some of Katherine’s story line, I did enjoy the story!
