Happy Sunday! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! Today Alex at Coffeloving Bookaholic, Kathy at Books & Munches, and I will begin our buddy read for book 2 in the Throne of Glass series! You will see posts from both Alex and I today talking about what we expect from Crown of Midnight. You will see posts from both of us on Wednesday discussing part 1 of the book, and in a week discussing part 2. You will also see Kathy joining in on the comments sections of both our posts as she reads along with us!
There may be spoilers ahead, in this post and in our discussion posts, so only follow along if you have read the series or are not worried about spoilers (we will try to not give away major spoilers).
Please feel free to join our discussion in the comment sections on our posts!
The Book:
Book Title: Crown of Midnight
Book Author: Sarah J. Maas
Good Reads Synopsis: An assassin’s loyalties are always in doubt but her heart never wavers
Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become the King’s Champion. But she is far from loyal to the crown. Though she hides her secret vigilantly, her deadly charade becomes difficult when she realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. No one is above questioning her allegiance—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.
Then, one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie … and whom she is willing to fight for.
Expectations:
Book one left us with many questions, and many things longed for. I am expecting more intrigue from the love triangle, though I am also expecting that Celaena will not make a choice until at least book 3 or 4. I am expecting more from Nehemia, and am even expecting Nox to return. I am definitely expecting more world building and action because we had a lot of political build up in book 1.
If you decide to read along with us, or plan to read in the future, what are your expectations of the book and series?
Q & A with Alex:
Me: What do you expect of the love triangle in Crown of Midnight?
Alex: I expect, that it will continue, unfortunately. I would love, if it gets sorted out pretty soon, but I don’t think that will happen. I guess, there will be something between Calaena and Chaol but I also think, that she will have some Dorian time and that the feelings there will spark too.
Me: I am expecting more intensity, passion, and hard choices, but I am also not expecting a choice to be made in this book.
Me: Do you expect more from Nehemia in this book?
Alex: Yes! I want more of her. I hope, that she and Celaena will have some badass female time and that their relationship will grow. And of course, that Nehemia has some more secrets to share with us, so we’ll get to know her better.
Me: I do expect to see more of Nehemia in this book. There was a decent build up with her in book 1 and I would be disappointed to not find out more about her in this one.
Me: Do you expect more violence and action?
Alex: I think that it’s inevitable. I mean, Celaena is the new assassin, so there will definitely more action and violence. I guess, she will get herself in some crazy situations and I am excited to see, how it all unfolds and how she is doing as an assassin. Even though I think, that there will be some more action, I hope, that the funny parts won’t disappear. I want to laugh again! 🙂
Me: I do expect more violence and action, both with Celaena chosen as the new assassin, and with the political build up we experienced in book 1.
Make sure to head over to Alex’s blog at Coffee Loving Bookaholic to see her post and to read her half of the Q & A! Also, keep your eyes in the comment section of both posts for Kathy at Books & Munches to join in!

*Trying to write this as if I haven’t started Book 2 yet, which, obviously I have..*
I hope I’ll be able to get rid of my Chaol / Dorian-whiplashes! During book 1 I was constantly changing opinions on who I’d want Celaena to be with and it hurt my head. Usually I can just say “THAT ONE!” and stick with it but Maas did succeed in making me doubt myself the whole time.
As for Nehemia: I definitely need more of her! And I hope I’ll find out whether or not my presumption regarding Celaena is correct. But I still have the giant feeling that I’ll be right, haha.
Definitely ready for more new and intriguing characters!

I will be starting in the morning. Lol. But I agree. I am torn between them because I kept going back and forth so much!!
What is your presumption? Nehemia is one of my favorites for sure. I hope she plays a heavy role in book 2!

I started yesterday after finishing Looking for Alaska and I haven’t been able to put it down, haha. I’ve almost finished part one!
That Celaena is going to end up being royalty. The timing of everything in her past is just too.. well-timed?
Same! Nehemia just has something about her that intrigues me an awful lot. Although Celaena has the same, Nehemia is just a lot more mysterious since we don’t have her POV!

I think she will be royalty or fae blood. Book 1 mentioned suppressed powers from her childhood.

Maybe she’ll just be both! The end of part one is.. is.. *no words*

Oh awesome! this will be sort of a re-cap I can follow along to since I’m only behind on the last book released. LOVE Nehemia def think she adds positive female friendship to the mix. Will you be reading The Assassin’s Blade last? I’m always curious about this, I read it last because it hadn’t been published yet at the time but now that I’ve read it, it’s def a book 0 of sorts. Not sure why it was published way after considering she advises you read it before Throne of Glass. It led to me having many “Oh SO that’s why THAT happened!” moments smh LOL!

I love Nehemia from book 1 so far!! I think I had someone tell me to wait until after book 3 or 4 to read the novellas. We haven’t decided what order we want to read them in yet though.
