Happy Monday! Once again, it is time for our monthly theme with the fabulous Calendar Girls Book Group!! Before I go in to my runners up, and top pick, for Favorite Book Published in 2017, I’ll give you the CGB run down!
Calendar Girls is a monthly book group, formed by Flavia and Melanie, inspired by the song Calendar Girl by Neil Sedaka. This lovely group votes on a monthly theme to center a blog post around (first Monday of the month) and then discusses these posts on Twitter about two weeks later (third Sunday of the month). If this sounds interesting to you, please give Melanie and Flavia a visit and let them know you would like to join!
P.s. Just because it’s called Calendar ‘Girls’ doesn’t mean only girls can join!
Contenders:
This was a tough choice! If this had just been “Favorite Read of 2017,” Gunslinger Girl would have won hands down. But, alas, we won’t get the glory of that story until January… So, my two contending choices (and these were super close) are:
Favorite Book Published in 2017:
Book Title: Retribution Rails
Book Author: Erin Bowman
Page Count: 374
Publishing Date: November 7th, 2017
Publisher: HMH Books for Young Readers
Date Read: November 8th, 2017
Synopsis: REDEMPTION IS NEVER FREE
When Reece Murphy is forcibly dragged into the Rose Riders gang because of a mysterious gold coin in his possession, he vows to find the man who gave him the piece and turn him over to the gang in exchange for freedom. Never does he expect a lead to come from an aspiring female journalist. But when Reece’s path crosses with Charlotte Vaughn after a botched train robbery and she mentions a promising rumor about a gunslinger from Prescott, it becomes apparent that she will be his ticket to freedom—or a noose. As the two manipulate each other for their own ends, past secrets are unearthed, reviving a decade-old quest for revenge that may be impossible to settle.
In this thrilling companion to Vengeance Road, dangerous alliances are formed, old friends meet new enemies, and the West is wilder than ever.
Retribution Rails was a glorious read for me! It was in close second to Gunslinger Girl! It glittered like gold. It was wild, heart pounding, and rich! It was action packed, emotional, and thrilling! There were so many twists and turns in this wild ride! If you haven’t read Vengeance Road yet, you need to pick up a copy ASAP! Then pick this one up and read then back to back, because Retribution Rails was that good!

I haven’t read any of these but I’ve heard really good things about Retribution Rails … I think I should see if my library has that series.

Yes, find Vengeance road first. RR is a companion novel, but it reads so much better after reading VR!

Otherwise some pretty great choices for this theme!
