Happy New Year!!! Did you do anything exciting? Did you read a good book? Did you go to a party, or ring in the new year with someone special? My husband and I snuggled in bed watching Father Brown on Netflix. It was a nice, relaxed New Year’s Eve.
Now that it’s a new year, it’s time to talk about all the new things we are excited for, like growing Calendar Girls with my amazing co-host Katie @ Never Not Reading, hosting a more open Twitter chat to allow for more participants, and talking about all the new books we are looking forward to! And, our theme for January was perfectly picked to do just that!
~Happy New Year: (2019 Release Your’re Most Looking Forward to)~
Top Contendors:
Stain by A.G. Howard is a faerie tale inspired by The Princess and the Pea. You all know I love my faerie tales, so I was beyond excited to receive an ARC of this from Abrams! You’ll get to read my review soon, and make sure you check out this post to find out about the pre-order swag!
We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal promises to be a powerful, rich story, with strong characters, inspired by Ancient Arabia. I can’t wait to read it!
Of course, Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi is a highly anticipated read since Children of Blood and Bone was such a strong, interesting story!
I have adored the Veronica Speedwell books, so I am dying to get my hands on A Dangerous Collaboration by Deanna Raybourn!!
And, of course, Nyxia Uprising by Scott Reintgen is high on my list since I loved the first two books!
Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller sounds so exciting, and who can resist a kick ass female lead?
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Slayer by Kiersten White from Simon Pulse in exchange for my honest review, so you can read my review here. It lived up to my expectations, and would have been my top choice if I hadn’t already read it!

Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco
Synopsis: In the shocking finale to the bestselling series that began with Stalking Jack the Ripper, Audrey Rose and Thomas are on the hunt for the depraved, elusive killer known as the White City Devil. A deadly game of cat-and-mouse has them fighting to stay one step ahead of the brilliant serial killer—or see their fateful romance cut short by unspeakable tragedy.
Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell have landed in America, a bold, brash land unlike the genteel streets of London they knew. But like London, the city of Chicago hides its dark secrets well. When the two attend the spectacular World’s Fair, they find the once-in-a-lifetime event tainted with reports of missing people and unsolved murders.
Determined to help, Audrey Rose and Thomas begin their investigations, only to find themselves facing a serial killer unlike any they’ve heard of before. Identifying him is one thing, but capturing him—and getting dangerously lost in the infamous Murder Hotel he constructed as a terrifying torture device—is another.
Will Audrey Rose and Thomas see their last mystery to the end—together and in love—or will their fortunes finally run out when their most depraved adversary makes one final, devastating kill?
There is no cover yet for this one, but it is on the top of my list, and I am dying to find out when the reveal will be! The Stalking Jack the Ripper series has captured my heart and my mind. I have thoroughly loved and enjoyed every minute of each book, and Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell have become two of my all time favorite characters. Hands down, besides Slayer by Kiersten White (which I have already read and loved) Capturing the Devil is my most anticipated read! This last installment in one of my favorite series is set to be published in September of this year!! If you would like to see how much I love these books, you can visit my reviews below!

For those who are new to Calendar Girls, it is a monthly blog event, created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, that was inspired by the Neil Sedaka song Calendar Girl. Just like the song, each month has a specific theme, voted on by the participants, where we get to talk about a particular book we love or think fits the theme the best. The blog event was created to incite fun bookish discussions and to spread the blogger love by introducing us to new bloggers and/or books that we have not come across before.
If this sounds like something you would enjoy, make sure to head to my Calendar Girls info page! Drop a comment and let me know if you are interested in joining us, and sign up for the newsletter if you would like monthly updates on the chosen themes and blogger picks! We’d love to have you join us!
If you are joining on the fun today, make sure to link back to this post AND Katie’s post so we can add your name and choice to the list of participants for all to enjoy!

I am so out of the loop, I totally thought Escaping From Houdini was the end of the series! I only read the first book, but I LOVED it and would really like to read the others. I just … never got around to it. Stock.

So I’m thinking either a blood red or burgundy dress, or a black dress for this cover. What do you think?

That’s what I was thinking too! Something red. She had a green dress for book 1, a white dress for book 2, blue for 3, so…I think definitely red or burgundy 🙂 maybe purple?

Right. I’m thinking red or burgundy because of the devil, lmao. Gah, I can’t wait!

The cover for Stain is gorgeous ❤ and of course, Slayer was my pick haha. But SJTR is a good choice! I've heard good things about the series so I might have to start reading that this year!

Yasss. Slayer would have been my pick if I hadn’t gotten the ARC. You need to read it ASAP so we can chat!!! And, yes, you need to read the series so we can read book 4 together!

I think it’s kind of hit or miss for most people. Maybe giving it a second try later on might prove fruitful.

I’m hoping so because it seems like a hit for most people I’ve seen review it!! I’ll definitely be giving it another shot as I didn’t get very far to begin with!
