Happy Holidays Everyone!
The cold weather is here (and with all my weight loss, I am actually getting cold in Arizona, lol), for most of us in the US, the holidays are in full swing (Thanksgiving was so nice and I’m looking forward to holiday light sight seeing and Christmas events), and it’s the perfect time to come together and celebrate our love for reading (as a lot of you have noticed, I haven’t been reading the past few months, but I am hoping my love will come back over Winter when it’s cold enough to snuggle up with a good book), and the importance of diversity (I am really enjoying the latest Christmas movies centered around the idea of love for all and giving back to those in need)!

Runners Up:
My Choice:
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Synopsis:
Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone. . . .
A convict with a thirst for revenge
A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager
A runaway with a privileged past
A spy known as the Wraith
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes
Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.
My Reason:
This duology has stayed with me for over two years now! I loved everything about it, but especially the fact that the cast was diverse, not just in skin color and culture, but in beliefs, strengths, and weaknesses, as well as love interests. This cast of characters is spectacularly well rounded and strong! I don’t know that any other cast of characters will ever replace their place in my heart because they are certainly memorable and vividly diverse!

For those who are new to Calendar Girls, it is a monthly blog event, created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, that was inspired by the Neil Sedaka song Calendar Girl. Just like the song, each month has a specific theme, voted on by the participants, where we get to talk about a particular book we love or think fits the theme the best. The blog event was created to incite fun bookish discussions and to spread the blogger love by introducing us to new bloggers and/or books that we have not come across before.
If this sounds like something you would enjoy, make sure to head to my Calendar Girls info page! Drop a comment and let me know if you are interested in joining us, and sign up for the newsletter if you would like monthly updates on the chosen themes and blogger picks! We’d love to have you join us!
If you are joining on the fun today, make sure to link back to this post AND Katie’s post so we can add your name and choice to the list of participants for all to enjoy!

I feel like I’m the only person *not* on the Six of Crows train, but I was just so underwhelmed by the Grishaverse trilogy… I hear this book have a great found family vibe, though!

Oh I was not impressed with book 1 of the Grisha trilogy. Give SoC a try after a little more time has passed. Very different, and much more enjoyable!
